Project Shift is an opportunity to develop a system for building and sustaining a professional knowledge base by refining the instructional practices of educators through use of collaborative video lesson study. We can accomplish this by building on professional practices we already do well in our schools and by tapping school structures we currently have in place, including teacher leadership. But don't just take our word for it! Katherine Basset, Executive Director and CEO of the National Network of State Teachers of the Year, says:
Project Shift is a dynamic, teacher-led initiative to strengthen educator practice through collaboration. I applaud this effort. Using teacher-developed videos, educators will collaborate in analyzing practice. The end goal of this work is a strengthened teaching profession and increased student learning. This initiative will result in promoting collaborative practice and teacher leadership, two key tenets of the NNSTOY organization.
